Chinese malls have the strangest things

Chinese malls are mostly empty. Most of the local people can hardly afford to pay standard Western prices for clothes that they might otherwise score cheaply elsewhere. Strangely, Chinese malls are stocked with random pieces of art, for lack of a better word.

These are two random freaky looking Western kids dressed in soccer gear, in honor of the World Cup, I'm assuming.

But if those things are in honor of the World Cup, I'm not quite sure what these are.

They kind of look like the aliens in the arcade from Toy Story? Maybe in honor of Toy Story 3? Who knows? Very strange indeed.If you can place them, do post!

Beijing 2010

Things I've discovered while in China. I love it. I can't believe I'm back and it frightens me to death that this isn't just a vaca. Today I lunched at DingTaiFeng, then did a little bit of shopping. My jetlag isn't so bad but I confess, right now.. I think I might have given myself a mini microderm abrasion this morning drying my face from the shower JUST ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY FACE-- therefore I will not be going out. I look like Phantom of the fucking Opera. WHAT THE HELL!!!!!! I spent like 30 mins looking online to see whether or not I had contracted a fungus on the plane and was freaking out but I think I just scraped off layers of skin with a dry ass towel.

The flight was nice. ATL - SEA - PEK. Seattle was fun again! I never imaged that I would be back after going in April but... again, the dimsum was good and the people friendly! The Beijing flight was 11 hours long but I managed to score a business class seat, which means I slept in a 180 bed and I got to watch Valentine's Day and Sherlock Holmes on demand. V-day, ok. Sherlock Holmes -= LOVED IT.

Three course meal and unlimited red wine. Why thank you. Will do. 

Vat else? Well.. the smog is terrible. It's hot but not too hot.... the people are less than friendly and the traffic is not a little bad.

I'm staying at my cousin's for the moment, and I will be in Taiwan in about 3 or 4 days. AND, I might have already bought this watch.

Shopping Spree for Mom and Me!

Happy Mom's Day! In deference to this glorious holiday, I've been doing a lot of what my mother and I do best, shopping.

What is Mom's Day but not a giant shopping holiday? What does my mother want more in the world more than my happiness?

I obliged.

After I stopped at Hermes, which is located in Atlanta next to Fados (to my surprise), I dropped by Lenox and found a few things that were pleasing to mine eye.

Splurge vs. Steal: Sandals!

Any prepster will tell you that Jack Rogers go with anything and are a staple in your wardrobe from spring through summer.

Throw it in a bag and it matches pretty much any dress, jeans, and skirt that you've packed in your overnight bag for the coast, shore, beach, or a short walk in town.

Unfortunately, once your Jack Rogers touch water or dirt, they're ruined. By the end of summer, you have to seriously contemplate keeping them for another year and because they were a cool hundo $, you do. But man, are they beat up.

Fear no more, my fellow friends! Target to the rescue!!! For so long, I've turned to Target for my flats and sandal needs and once again...I'll shut up and just show you.

This is what I saw when I got to the Bergdorf site.

Great ad! You can see that the dress is fun and allows for movement in 4 inch pumps, but then I looked at the price........

Dreams crushed. Hopefully, Michelle Obama wears this dress soon so I can stare at it some more!

I mean, it's not like I don't have like.. 12 different lip glosses and stuff that I don't use already. Maybe, don't buy this, but I'll keep this posted in case I ever want to buy it. ARGH. Welcome to my world of frustrations.

Jeggings = Jeans + Leggings = I'm never wearing pants again.

the Cut, of NYmag, was the first to write about jeggings. Then, after first rejecting the thought of them...... I reconsidered and then.. perhaps bought 3 pairs.

They are skinny jeans without the numb calves! They are jeans without the guilt of not being able to breathe after a long boozy night! They're soft, and you can easily pass out in them!

Currently, they are sold anywhere from Nordstroms to Forever 21 and they look like this:

THINGS I NEED TO BOYCOTT

1. Shopping: I've already looked at the Fall collections of H&M, BR, Gap, and Anthro - and I have nothing there that I need/can afford... so it's best if I don't step into the store. I will not let Free Shipping or 20% off a $50 purchase woo me into buying things I do not need. Although, I do need a pair of boots because I don't have one, but I also need to slim my calves down because they are too powerful right now.

2. Eating at Chain Restaurants: I've already tasted what I like there and it's bad for me. I am incapable of ordering new things; I'm too much of a creature of habit. (Cheesecake Factory - I'm talking to you.)

3. Eating things that are not absolutely delicious: OK- icecream sandwich that is low cal and a treat, Not OK - ramen noodles and anything that is a heavy starch that is not immediately followed by exercising OR subpar desserts.

4. Facebook: Every time I log on, I realize that I should be doing something else, like actually seeing my friends. Let's face it, emailing people is still a ton more personal since sending real letters is way too expensive in this economy. (I will do anything not to pay postage.)

Addendum: 5. Sentimentality: I need to stop keeping things on the off chance that they'll be useful, i.e. shopping bags, or I think they are a waste, lotion older than 2 years. START USING THE TRASHCAN RELIGIOUSLY.

P.S. I have totally stopped going to Perezhilton.com and I feel way amazing about it. Cheers to being less trashy.

I don't know about you, but I generally shop at the same stores based on their rotating cycles of style. You know.. for a few seasons, Gap or J. Crew might be off, so I don't buy their stuff, but eventually I do return. I have always been a fan of H&M but today, when I was browsing through their TOP 5 trends on their website, I was told these things:

UH, what? Shoulder focus? As in pads? Did you know that I used to confuse pads for the breasts for shoulder pads? Actually, I must have thought that everything was a shoulder pad, because they were so prominent in the 80s, that I still have nightmares about wearing them. Do I have prominent shoulders? Prominent enough that the only thing that I should want to pad, is my boobs.

I zoomed in on this screen shot. It is bad when I cannot distinguish between a dress and a shirt, and that the shirt may or may not have super shiny/ pointy spacesuit inspired look. Looks like I will have to pass on browsing at H&M for the next month. Consider yourself warned.

BTW, on a more positive note, H&M is going to carry a line of shoes designed by Jimmy Choo later this fall. I will definitely participate in that action. (All images captured from www.hm.com)
