A Cave Surprise

Four hours had passed and we were less than an houIMG_2409 (Small)r away when we were presented with a fork in the road. Our bus driver offered to take us down into the valley that we were passing; it was a mere two kilometers away. All of us agreed only to find that what was waiting for us wasn’t a river bank to frolic in but instead a tropical paradise framing a wondrous cave.

You know how caves in America are sealed off except for a directed path? How we’re told by teachers and tour guides alike that we can’t touch the stone formations so that they may IMG_2465 (Small)maintain their natural form? Stay on the path. Don’t touch anything. Not in China babeeeee! None of these rules exist in rural China. Sure – there may be a sign or two somewhere but… no enforcers! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Wild West of China, where cave exploring is an untamed art and we, young Americans can freely taste the fruits of nature.  Mmmmmm rocks.
