Tinder thinks I'm in Paris

Dear Laurent, Belahcene, Mad, Alexis, Amine, Marc-Antoine, Pierluigi, Jean, Dara, Yoel, Badreddine, Alexandre, Prive, Saada, Phillipe, Mickael, Matthieu, Etienne, Andres, Julien, Youssef, Laurian, Olivier, Cyril, Celestin, Antoine, Pierre, Adrien, and Yann,

It's confusing, I know. I'm sorry. One second, I'm 2 or 3 miles away, then... Tinder flips me back to where I actually am, in San Francisco, and I'm back to being 5560 miles away.

It's just too bad because, Yoel, you're not so bad yourself. Alexis, your English is superb but I'm not your babe.

Yes, I was in Paris briefly almost a fortnight ago. Yes, it was fantastic. No, I'm not available to hook up with a French guy and it's a pity because every man on French Tinder is kind of hot. Ladies, if you're traveling soon, don't hesitate to pop open your Tinder and take a look!

What could be better than David Gandy?

This video: currently, as of July 18, 2014 at 2 pm PDT,  it has more hits than J.Lo's First Love.

It's adorable. Based on the music, the couple is my age. I'm impressed and enthralled. Enjoy.

David Gandy is Adonis

First, watch this video. Let's contemplate together how lucky Jennifer Lopez is. She's ageless, she's stunning, her cheekbones = wow.

Now, let's just set up how this video was created. All of this was made up in my mind, but I'd like to think some of it was true. Jennifer has this song. It's called First Love, so naturally, J. Lo is thinking, I've got to find the hottest man on Earth right now, because that could be believable as her first love.

Lo and behold, David Gandy is the number 1 ranked male model is G.B. and in my humble opinion, the world.

Ta Da. J.Lo's people call David Gandy. They pitch him the idea:

All you need to do, David, is dress in an all white body suit, brood at J.Lo dancing from across the room, stand underneath a shower in your all white body suit, ride a motorcycle, carry a large tire, and roll around with J.Lo in the desert. SLOWLY.
You don't need to shower the day before, we've got that for ya. Smiles optional.

David Gandy says yes. This video was made and my brain has exploded.

Scroll to 3:18, 3:26, 3:28 for glimpses of pure pleasure. You're welcome. Sorry , not sorry for being a fan girl and don't ask me how old I am.

6 things I'm obsessed with at the moment

This is why I'm not blogging.

I'm obsessed with:

1. Teas and finding cute accouterments. I'm looking at Mariage-Frere teas like it's my business.

2. Anthropologie dresses and teapots.

3. Moynat bags, specifically the Rejane. (Hey Rashid!, if somehow Moynat keeps a Google alert on their brand and my blog shows up!)

4. Finding all my lipsticks.

5. Taking advantage of the fact that my Tinder still thinks I'm in Paris. Love swiping on Adriens.

6. David Gandy. What I want for my birthday: David Gandy by Dolce and Gabbana.

To all the single ladies

As I expect that readership to my blog is at an all time low (read = 0 )... I feel like it is once again a safe space to put some thoughts that I've been having into the interwebs.

Since leaving the mountain village and re-inserting myself back into society, I have been busy at work, and not at work. I've been traversing the ins and outs of living back in the first world.

Thinking about why I'm single, definitely a first world problem.

When I was living in China, I always thought about how I was going to wash my underwear and what method I would be cooking potatoes for the day. Never why I wasn't meeting strangers to call my gray space acquaintance of more than a friend, not maybe not anymore than that.... more on that later .

For two years, I thought more of how to continue to exist in general with an emphasis on how not lose any more hair.

Well, after many moves, from China to Atlanta, and Atlanta to three separate houses in the Mission of San Francisco, I'm happy to say that I finally have the luxury to think about why I'm single.

1. My day job is talking to strangers. Post work, I like silence with a side of Vanderpump.

2. I want to establish a connection too quickly and often bypass the expected period of considering someone a stranger. If we have a great initial conversation, I'm going to assume that I can ask you to take off your pants - regardless of gender.

3. I'm set in my ways. I want to do what I want do and when I want to do it.

#thisiswhyImsingle is one of my favorite thoughts of the past month. I'm afraid if I think it any longer.... this might actually become a problem. Welp, whatever.

T-REX cutie!

Even though the T-Rex has been unveiled to be not the ferocious killer that we once thought, Chrome has adopted this short armed lizard as the pixelated icon for my sometimes lack of internet connection - and I LOVE IT.

Happy weekend. Thought I would share!

Happy Friday!

This is the cutest thing I've seen on the internet since I woke up. Happy Friday. Just a few more hours before we can break from work!

Things that I have considered buying myself in the past week

The things I want to buy and the things I need to buy are a jumbled mix in my mind at all times. Sometimes I have a more lean mindset, so the things that I need are more of a priority. Other times, like the entire month of September, I think more about the things that I want, and then things get crazy.

So let's split things into things I need, things I really need, things I want in passing, things I want, things I want to splurge on. If you're horrified by my categorizing, I'm not sorry.

Things I need.
Eggs. Chives.

Things I really need.
Eggs. Chives. Pepper, seriously how do I keep forgetting? Diet Coke in bulk. Olive oil. Calpico. Ketchup. To clean my room. To take out the trash.

Things I want in passing
New nail polish. A new set of Muji pens. Something from Cole Haan (25% full price things!), Tom Ford lipstick ($49) - I tried it and it's incredible. A good night's sleep. A new dress from J.Crew./Kate Spade/Urban/ASOS. An iPhone?

Things I want (for my birthday)
Tocca Stella, a huge Capri Bay Volcano candle, a new dress from Anthro, that damn Tom Ford lipstick, 50 pairs of Hello Kitty glasses. Yes, bitch, 50. Justin Timberlake to love me so much - damn you, Jessica Biel.

Things I want to splurge on
Tom Ford lipstick in Cherry Lush, a swanky haircut, a meal at Frances/Coqueta/Kokkari, a facial. Jewels. Anything that's on Gilt.

Same city, new job, new life

Today marks the one year anniversary of my moving to San Francisco. I've moved jobs, houses, and mindsets since the last time that I blogged. I'm still crazy, but my room is smaller, messier and I own way too many rubik's cubes.

I've made a lot of new friends but still stayed in touch with old friends. What makes an old friend old and a new friend new? What makes a new friend feel like we're old friends? Friends are friends and I'm lucky enough to have awesome friends not only in San Francisco, but everywhere.

I like it even better when my friends visit.

Monica and I in a SF institution, Philz on Mission.

I'm not sure if I'm going to start blogging again but I'm too far behind to back blog, so I'll just tell you that my eyebrows look great, my clothes don't fit, I've got a new job and I'm just as lucky as ever. My favorite belt has a gold bow on it.

If you want to look me up, I'll be in the Mission absolutely until the end of the year, look for the Asian girl in thick glasses, wearing a cross body bag, probably eat at Humphrey Slocombe's.

Good luck, suckaz.

If anyone still reads this, I'd be surprised

But, in case you're wondering, I'm not dead. Work has over taken my life, I'm moving soon (still in San Francisco, still in the Mission) and I'm a user of Snapchat even though I know that it doesn't really delete the photos off your phone. OOPS, long hair, don't care.

I also just learned that phrase and I like it.

NOOOOOO!

NYTIMES CLOSES THEIR URL PAYWALL LOOPHOLE. Noooooooooo!!!

Amazon 2-Day Prime vs. Daiso

I primarily buy my things from two places these days. Amazon 2-Day Prime or Daiso, the $1.50 Japanese Goods store.

Things I bought from Amazon.com in the past two weeks.
Fabric Steamer
Digital Camera
Curling iron
Hair waver
Hair protectant
Teeth bleacher
Cheez its
Febreze
Hand weights - 2 - 5 lbs

from Daiso:
Metal-less hair clip: aka giant hair barette
Clipboard
Two champagne flutes
Nail buffer
The perfect sized white bowl to beat eggs in
A knife sharpener
A glass tupperware container
Stationery
Earphones
Sticky hooks
Clothing clips

I recognize both these habits could be a problem!

Confession.

I still use Windows Media Player. :-\ Don't make fun. I like technology that was popular in 1998.

You're gorgeous.

I must set a goal in order for me to allow myself to purchase these two dresses. I saw the first in-store. This baby cost $198 dollars, more expensive than the $170 rug that I need to go in my room, and the same color.

jcrew.com. This dress reminds me of the Darjeeling Limited.
A rug would provide my room with warmth, and cover the bare space that would finally make my room feel like a home. I shouldn't buy this dress. Then! My wandering eyes, in conjunction with my wayward hands feasted themselves upon this! $398 and based on the works of Piet Mondrian, if Piet lived by way of Martha's Vineyard.

katespade.com

Oooo. $398 is how much money I'd like to spend on a digital camera, so that I can take gorgeous photos instead of staring at the ones that my phone takes everyday and feeling unsatisfied! Shall I possess these beautiful dresses the only way I can - via my blog? Oh sigh of sighs.

In a sentimental mood

If I write this song down online, I won't forget about it and have to search for it again. I've been listening to awesome top 40 hits for so long that I forgot that I love a few other types of music as well. My first love: CLASSICAL MUSIC. Every Chinese girl took piano. I took it for 15 years and what I took away from it was a love of classical music. I'm good at the technical stuff but I could never be spontaneous or move into jazz.

Jazz. When I think about jazz, I always think about this song. It haunts me sometimes until I search for it blindly online, wasting time and time. I find it - listen, then I become obsessed with it again. The last time I listened to this song was at least 4 years ago. When I search for it, I always think it's a Gershwin song, but silly me. It's John Coltrane and Duke Ellington.

It's sentimental, beautiful and sexy. Listening to this makes me loath to go back to Top 40 stuff!

Finally. JT4EVER.

In case you've been living under a rock, Justin Timberlake finally released something that I can play on repeat in the office.

Thanks buddy.

Challenge Accepted

Monica's arrival outside at 5:20 allowed me to literally run out my office door. I felt like an asshole leaving her outside, so I ran down. We stopped by the Station Cafe on Pacific to grab a quick coffee before jumping on our bus to food. There was a cute barista behind the counter, but aren't they always?

At one point, I asked Monica when she was coming over to stay at my place and he answered instead. I fought the urge to give him my card.

After a brief, cheap, and delicious dinner at Sun Kwong, I made Monica rush home with me to take a whimsical challenge. I'm trying to make it sound light, but two Asian girls sitting at home in a room in front of a laptop while the Jeopardy song plays is hardly cute.

Thanks to that Blue Bottle coffee, I'm up blogging about this now.

Yep. It's that time of the year. Apparently these past three days have been days where Americans can go online and take the online Jeopardy screening. As a quiz bowler, I jumped at the challenge. Unfortunately, I've done a lot of things to dull my skills as a quiz bowl enthusiast since 2004. Less than a decade ago, I would have been a bloodthirsty fiend over this opportunity.

Tonight, I was able to take it a lot more casually with Monica. When the question of who the composer of Tosca was, I happily typed in Puccini. Still got... some of it. Twelve short minutes later, it was over.

I'll let you know if I ever hear back, but I'm not holding my breath. Whew.
