Let me introduce to you the concept of the Sunday Morning Friend. You actually know the Sunday Morning Friend already. To her, you're her best friend. To you, unbeknownst to her, she's reserved for Sunday morning exercise.
The Sunday Morning Friend is a girl or boy that you don't mind being friends with. Minorly exciting, constantly present, and always interested, the existence of the Sunday Morning Friend highlights your strengths. The classification originates from the idea that you don't mind spending time with her - but not anytime during the week when you could be making plans with someone else.
When a Sunday Morning Friend asks me to hang out, this is what I see in my planner. Take a look at how I arrange my week:
Monday-Wednesday: Recovering from going to work for 8 hours a day. Pass out upon reaching le casa.
Thursday night: The New Friday. I can only be anti-social for so long before going crazy.
Friday night? BUSY: drinking, hanging out with hotties, and cruising for dudes, or if it's been a long week, early to bed.
Saturday lunch? BUSY: drinking, catching up with friends from out of town, snack break from shopping
Saturday night? BUSY: wearing recently purchased items from zee mall.
Sunday morning? Hmmm, well, I have been overdoing the food and drink all weekend, I do need to exercise - Yes! Let's totally hang out, Sunday Morning Friend. (But only to work out from the hours of 7:30am to 10:30am....)
Sunday brunch? Make plans with someone other than the Sunday Morning Friend. Sunday Brunch should be cherished.
The Sunday Morning Friend will never be busy on Sunday morning, because frankly, NO one is. Unless you're communing with the Lord, Sunday mornings are usually reserved for zee sleeps.
She'll peel herself out of bed early because she adores you and thinks that you're doing the same thing for her. Actually, you're not. You just aren't willing to sacrifice any OTHER time for the Sunday Morning Friend.
When you're together, you bitch together about your lives. You divulge secrets and complaints that you've felt during the week. You actually get on with your Sunday Morning Friend quite well. You laugh, you exercise together and you bond over the sweat that you're shedding. You've had long weeks and you're dreading returning to work the next morning. But aren't you glad that you could have a chance to hang out? Suuuuuuuuuure.
Be careful when someone suggests that you hang out on Sunday morning. Are you someone's Sunday Morning Friend? Force the issue. Suggest brunch and make a freakin' reservation. No one deserves to be the Sunday Morning Friend! What about Tuesday? Anything not to be the Sunday Morning Friend!
Sunday Mornings, my friend, are best for dim sum. That's why it's called Dim Sum Sundays!
